La galerie reçoit SWOON pour sa 3e exposition personnelle à Paris, “Motherlands”.

Après avoir consacré ces 3 dernières années à la réalisation d’installations monumentales pour des musées (MoCA Los Angeles, ICA Boston, NOMA New Orleans, MAC Oaxaca, …) et s’être investie dans des projets caritatifs communautaires dont elle est à l’initiative (Braddock Tiles à Braddock, Pennsylvanie – Konbit Shelter à Cormiers, Haïti – Dithyrambalina à la Nouvelle Orléans, Louisiane), Swoon vient d’achever une grande fresque sur le fameux Bowery Mural à New York (en collaboration avec l’association Groundswell et en mémoire de l’ouragan Sandy). Le Brooklyn Museum lui consacrera sa 1ère exposition personnelle en ses murs au printemps 2014, qui prendra la forme d’une installation monumentale immersive.SWOON’s exhibition at Galerie LJ, entitled “Motherlands”, comprises works created over the past 3 years, during various projects in collaboration with various groups of people, built together in some kind of loose narrative. Most of the themes running through the pieces have to do with questions such as ecological destruction, global warming, displacement of indigenous population, people losing their homelands, becoming displaced from their own environment. The fact that Swoon lost her own mother in 2013 fed her questionings about origins and death that are also layered in this global theme and installation.
