Liz Gomis interviewed Swoon at the gallery during the set up of her new exhibition “Motherlands” (on view thru January 11th 2013).

Barneys New York has recently unveiled a limited edition collection designed in collaboration with Shawn ‘JAY Z’ Carter, available in the BNY SCC Gallery, an in-store space conceived by renowned French visual artist Joanie Lemercier under the direction of Jay Z and Barneys New York Creative Director Dennis Freedman. The interior of the space is projected with an original film for a 360-degree experience. The multi-dimensional film, shot over three months in Brooklyn and Manhattan, portrays spectacular visuals that take visitors through a journey from New York’s underground through the city and beyond.

Swoon recently completed a piece in collaboration with Groundswell, on the famous Bowery Wall in New York (between Houston and Bowery). The piece is up for the next three months.

As a response to the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy, Groundswell unveiled a series of murals addressing healing and recovery in New York City communities among the neighborhoods most affected by the storm. Groundswell youth artists, in partnership with Master Artist Swoon and Groundswell artists Yana Dimitrova, Angel Garcia, Jazmine Hayes, and Misha Tyutyunik, created a visual narrative that captures the concerns, hopes and overall spirits of these communities.

Dithyrambalina will be a sonic playground, performance venue and laboratory for musical architecture in New Orleans.
Two years ago New Orleans Airlift and the artist Swoon launched the Kickstarter campaign that funded The Music Box, our prototype for an ongoing musical architecture project we call Dithyrambalina. That proof-of-concept was more successful than we ever believed possible! We transformed a blighted 150-year-old house into a temporary village of playable musical houses with interactive instruments embedded into the walls, floors and ceilings of structures. The Music Box welcomed over 15,000 visitors for days of interactive public exploration and nights of ground-breaking concerts, as well as over 500 students for engaging workshops. To our great amazement the New York Times, NPR, BBC World Service, Smithsonian Magazine, Times Picayune, ArtNet, Canal Plus and more reported on the magic of this project.
